The Brampton popular music scene
by Deidre Crunt

Hi there, fellow groovy cats, thanx for both your letters, but in future please don't use joined up writing because I can't do that yet. This week I have been to see lots of pop groups free so I have wrote about them here for you.
Monday:
The Art Bandits drew a crowd of more than 14 people to the clubroom at the Whippet Inn. I really fancied the bass player but he was too loud and they all had nice trousers. The drummer smelled and he bought me a drink and said I could sit on his face for tuppence but there was some chairs left.

Tuesday:
Brampton Community Centre, The Kooljazz Fusion Sextet.
I thought they would be sexy but they were all very old and had horrid trousers but the drummer had a nice car in the interval and said I was very pretty and offered £20 to buy my cat but it was at home.

Wednesday:
I stayed in and washed my hair.

Thursday:
Irish Folk Night, O'Clackerty's Bar.
A very disappointing evening I think they were called "Tree Points Fodder Band" then a fat drunk sang the Tolpuddle Whale Miner's Lament before the ambulance came and there wasn't a proper drummer because he couldn't get it out of his bottom and an old man with some alien bagpipes asked me if I'd got a bit of Irish in me and when I said no he said did I want some then.

Friday:
DJ Rapmasterfunk, Slappers Nitespot.
It was very loud and really cool techno and I got drunk and danced a lot and the bouncer wanted to lick my cat but it was at home again.

Saturday:
The Talentless Richkidz, Mucky Lane Youth Centre.
An elegant and imaginative cross-fertilization of neo-classical minimalism and nightmarish post-gothic thrash metal, innovatively combined with an endearingly innocent but acute insight into the subtler nuances of modern free-form eastern European jazz-rock, with a delicate yet robustly mature flavouring of Caribbean rhythmic influence.

Sunday:
The Self Righteous Wankers,
Friendship Hall, Church of the Anointed Organ, Cack Lane, Brampton.
There wasn't no drink and the drummer was fat and sweaty and had spots but his dad was nice so I give him one instead.

New Album!!
By local band "Deep Thrust"
"B****CKS!"
Review by F. Kinaider
brampton music
Described by 17 year old keyboard player Nigel Weird (above) as "A reaction against the cynicism, corruption, and commercialism of today's music business, and the oppressive nature of the government which manifests itself throughout society as a whole", the "B****cks!" album has a freshly confrontational feel to it. The unorthodox but challengingly powerful rhythm section provided by bassist Desmond "wolf man" Pottle (17) and drummer Jason "thumper" Thorsen (15) is aptly complemented by the angst ridden screaming and atonal creative genius of guitarist, vocalist, poet and songwriter Mental Bastard, (pictured below) whilst the unique keyboard talents of Nigel Weird provide an inspired synthesized backdrop of interweaving distortion and tantalizingly unmelodic flourishes, leaving the listener in no doubt of the unparalleled level of skill and talent in evidence. The album is available at £11.74 from Rotting Fungus Records, Main Rd., Brampton, or by mail order from Box No. 2856 (+£4.62 p&p)
